ZTRS: Xi’an Metro Line 16 Phase I, Northwest China’s First Driverless Metro, Opens

News Release: Phase I of Xi’an Metro Line 16 has officially opened. With a total length of 15.1 km, the fully underground line runs from Shijingli Station in the south to Qinchuangyuan Center Station in the north, with 9 stations in total.


Significance of the Project
For the ancient city of Xi’an, Phase I of Line 16 enables transfers with Metro Line 5 at Happy Valley Station and Metro Line 1 at Shanglin Road Station. The route connects key landmarks including Fenghe Golden Bay, Xi’an International Football Center, China International Silk Road Center, OCT Happy Valley and Shijingli. It plays a vital role in optimizing the spatial layout of Xixian New Area and advancing the Xi’an-Xianyang integration process. More importantly, Xi’an Metro Line 16 adopts the GOA4 fully automatic operation system, the highest international automation grade, making it the first fully automatic driverless metro line in Northwest China.




ZTRS’s Contribution

ZTRS undertook the construction of the communication system for this project, delivering 20 subsystems for Line 16, including dedicated transmission, wireless communication, administrative telephone, dedicated telephone, video surveillance, public address, clock system, communication power supply, centralized alarm, office automation, passenger information, video conference, depot security, police transmission, police wireless communication, police face recognition, police computer network, dedicated internal police telephone, police communication power supply and police supervision management.

The project passed expert acceptance on June 18, 2023 and officially commenced operation on June 27, 2023. To date, ZTRS has supported four Xi’an Metro lines: Line 1, Line 4, Line 9 and Line 16. We warmly congratulate the successful opening of Phase I of Xi’an Metro Line 16.
